New endowed professor to lead studies in banking and finance
Doha, Qatar: Commercial Bank has recently announced the appointment of Professor Idries Mohammad Al-Jarrah, Professor of Finance, Department of Finance and Economics, as the Commercial Bank Chair of Banking. Professor Idries holds the position of endowed professor and works in Qatar University’s College of Business and Economics.
The newly created Commercial Bank Chair of Banking will lead studies in the field of banking and finance, and ultimately help provide the Qatari banking industry and other financial institutions with suitably qualified graduates. The appointment is in alignment with the policy of the Supreme Head of Qatar University which ensures that companies residing in Qatar support the University.
Professor Idries’ responsibilities include developing a research programme in banking and finance, conducting specialised workshops for Commercial Bank staff, teaching courses in banking and finance and supervising student internships at Commercial Bank each summer.
Commenting on the appointment, Commercial Bank’s CEO, Mr Abdulla Saleh Al Raisi, said: “Commercial Bank is committed to supporting education programmes in Qatar in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
