Commercial Bank of Qatar-sponsored art exhibition opens in Istanbul
11 November 2014
Doha, Qatar: The Commercial Bank of Qatar (“Commercial Bank”) has sponsored an art exhibition featuring prominent Qatari artist Amal Al-Aathem in Istanbul, Turkey. The first solo exhibition ever staged in Istanbul by a GCC artist, titled “Moon Dialog”, opened last week and is showing at contemporary art gallery “GALERİ ARTİST” until the end of November.
Amal Al-Aathem is one of the most internationally respected Qatari artists and her work has been widely exhibited across the world. Exhibiting her work in Turkey for the first time, “Moon Dialog” uses mixed-media paintings to seek a visual equivalent for the legendary ancient relationship between women and the moon.
The exhibition opening was attended by Board members and management of Commercial Bank and Turkish subsidiary Alternatifbank (“ABank”), together with dignitaries, VIPs and artists. Commercial Bank acquired a 74.24% majority stake in ABank last year, adding to its regional banking alliances in Oman and the UAE.
Commercial Bank CEO Abdulla Saleh Al Raisi said: “We are delighted to sponsor Amal Al-Aathem’s exhibition in Turkey. This exhibition is an example of Commercial Bank’s mission to export Qatar’s talent to the rest of the world and build on our position as one of the leading commercial banks in the region.”
“Commercial Bank and ABank are committed to work together and capitalise on the increasing links between Qatar and Turkey, form new networks of opportunity and bring more benefits to our customers, shareholders and employees,” he added.
