Commercial Bank participates in Career Village at Qatar Foundation

03 March 2019

Doha, Qatar: Commercial Bank has participated in Qatar Foundation’s Career Village – an education exhibition held at the Qatar Foundation Student Centre for children aged 5 to 17 years from schools and colleges in Qatar. The exhibition, which took place from the 26 to 28 February, allowed students to learn more about the basic skillset required for career success in a variety of sectors.

The Bank’s participation at the Career Village included the set-up of a ‘mini’ bank branch that featured the typical services that people can expect to find at a bank, such as a customer service desk, a bank teller as well as a credit and debit card support centre. Students who participated at the ‘mini’ bank branch were encouraged to practice their communication and teamwork skills by working in a mock customer service scenario. This exercise also allowed them to gain an understanding of Commercial Bank’s market-leading digital technologies.

Commercial Bank representatives also demonstrated its latest products and services to students at the Career Village, such as card payments, electronic transfers, and the Young Elite Savers Club membership that provides benefits, discounts and interest-earning savings for minors. They also provided information on the Bank’s annual ‘Young Bankers’ internship programme, which is part of its commitment to helping the next generation develop the skills they need to succeed in their careers.

Hussein Ali Al-Abdulla, EGM and Chief Marketing Officer, said: “Commercial Bank is proud to take part in educational exhibitions to help the younger generation gain the required skills to enter the banking sector by placing themselves in exciting scenarios at our mini bank branch. During the Career Village exhibition, students had the chance to feed their curiosity and show their talent the main areas that are important to us as a Bank, such as problem solving, initative and confidence.”

Sheikh Jassim Saud Al-Thani, Chief Human Capital Officer, said: “Our youth is our future, and Commercial Bank is determined to provide young students with the chance to gain the necessary skills and expertise to deliver excellence in the banking sector. The Qatar National Vision 2030 outlines the need for a knowledge-based economy and at the Bank we pride ourselves in ensuring we play a significant role in making that happen. It all starts with people.”
