Doha, Qatar: In keeping with Qatari culture, Commercial Bank – one of the leading full service banks in Qatar – has celebrated the tradition of Garangao with children at the Bank’s branches and also by distributing Garangao bags to children at Hamad Hospital.

Garangao takes place on the 14th day of Ramadan and is considered a special custom of Qatar and countries in the GCC region. On Wednesday 9 July at the Bank’s D-Ring branch, and Thursday 10 July at Commercial Bank Plaza, the Bank invited customers and their young children to participate in various Garangao-themed activities including the distribution of Garangao gifts, eating traditional food and drink and a cultural competition with prizes. Both branch events were a huge success, with over 500 children and their families taking part in the Garangao celebrations and activities.

On Saturday 12 July, children also had the opportunity to visit and enjoy Garangao stands at Commercial Bank branches in malls, with traditional gifts, sweets and photographs on offer. Commercial Bank representatives also shared the joy with children at Hamad Hospital by visiting and handing children of all ages specially designed Commercial Bank Garangao bags that were filled with an assortment of sweets and nuts.

Commercial Bank CEO Mr. Abdulla Saleh Al Raisi said: “As a bank with strong Qatari roots, we believe it is our responsibility to encourage and support Qatari traditions that preserve our heritage. Commercial Bank is especially proud to celebrate Garangao, as it brings so much joy to children during the Holy month of Ramadan, and is a culturally significant event celebrated by the entire Qatari community.”
