Commercial Bank extends Qatar Masters sponsorship

22 October 2019

Commercial Bank has entered a partnership agreement with Qatar Golf Associate to continue to be the official title sponsor for the tournament until 2022.

Education City Golf Club will become the newest golf course on the European Tour Calendar when it hosts the 23rd edition of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in March, 2020. Designed by two time major champion and World Golf Hall of Fame 2009 member José Maria Olazábal, the exciting new venue expects to not only challenge the European Tour stars but to also entertain local and international spectators with its unique views of the Doha Skyline and the 2022 Education City World Cup Stadium.

The highly-anticipated event is organised by The Qatar Golf Association (QGA), the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), Education City Golf Club and long-term title sponsor, Commercial Bank.
The tournament is considered Qatar’s annual ‘must-attend’ sporting and social event, first held in 1998 and widely known for bringing together the world’s best golf talent; the likes of Sergio Garcia, Rory Mcllroy, Adam Scott, Justin Rose, Ernie Els and Henrik Stenson have all competed in past years.

Hassan Nasser al-Naimi, President of Qatar Golf Association, commented: “On behalf of the Qatar Golf Association, we are truly grateful for the support of the Qatar Olympic Committee and our long-term title sponsor, Commercial Bank of Qatar, which has helped us position the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters as a significant world-class golf event. We are also very excited about working alongside Education City Golf Club for the 23rd Edition and aim to continue its success”.

Commercial Bank EGM, Chief Marketing Officer Hussein al-Abdulla said: “Our fruitful co-operation with Qatar Golf Association, the Olympic Committee and Education City will certainly help us combine our effort to showcase to the world the countless opportunities that Qatar can present to the sports industry being a world-class destination for international tournaments.

“We are looking forward to widen the platform of this co-operation through supporting more sports activities in the future. I am positive that our goals will become easier to achieve now with the new remarkable facility of the Education City Golf Club opened. I thank the QGA for partnering with us once again and look forward to the next three years of excitement.”

The 2020 event will see Education City support and emphasise community and family activities as it aims to encourage young Qataris to take up the sport and to grow the game of golf in Qatar.

Speaking on behalf of Education City Golf Club, the General Manager Michael Braidwood stated, “Education City Golf Club is excited to be hosting the 2020 Qatar Masters. We have recently opened our golf course and we have been delighted by the response of our clients on the quality and challenge of the course. It will be interesting to see how the European tour stars play the course. The event is an ideal opportunity for us to further our goal in growing the game of golf here in Qatar and we aim to use it as a platform to get as many new people engaged in the game”.

The Commercial Bank Qatar Masters was attended by thousands of spectators in 2019 and broadcast to a global TV audience of over 450 million viewers.  For the 23rd Edition of the event, all eyes will be on Doha as the biggest names in the sport vie for the Mother of Pearl Trophy on one of the newest golf courses on the Tour.

The 2020 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters will take place between March 5 and March 8.
