Doha, Qatar: Commercial Bank, one of the leading full service banks in Qatar, was again a platinum sponsor of the Business and Investment in Qatar Forum which aimed to promote Qatar’s economy, its strategic vision, and to put the spotlight on the myriad of opportunities the country offers to investors.  The Forum, which was hosted under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs for the State of Qatar, was held in Berlin on 15 -16 April.

The two-day Forum provided delegates from both government and private sector businesses with the chance to build strong relationships and generate business opportunities between the two countries. Many government officials, high net worth investors, and representatives from both the public and private sector attended. The previous Forum, which was held in New York two years ago where Commercial Bank was also a key sponsor, saw deals worth over USD 2.5 billion agreed and signed between US and Qatari companies.

As Group CEO of Commercial Bank, Mr. Andrew Stevens addressed the audience in a panel discussion on Day 2 of the Forum alongside Mr. Ali Shareef Al Emadi, CEO of Qatar National Bank, Mr. Ashok Aram, MENA CEO of Deutsche Bank, Mr. Robin McCall, Group CEO of Al-Khaliji Bank, Mr. Bassel Gamal, CEO of Qatar Islamic Bank, and Mr. Shashank Srivastava, CEO & Board Member of the Qatar Financial Centre Authority (QFCA). They discussed, among other banking sector related issues, the importance of lending growth as a springboard for development.

Several of Commercial Bank’s other senior management officials attended the Forum and took part in the important sessions, including Mr. Fahad Badar, Executive General Manager, Head of Wholesale Banking, and Mr. Ahmet Kagan Yildirim, Assistant General Manager, Head of International Banking.

Commenting on Commercial Bank’s commitment to supporting such important events, Mr. Stevens said: “We are delighted to continue our strong link with this vital initiative which showcases Qatari government and industry leadership, and builds lasting business relationships in the world’s leading markets. This year’s event was truly informative and thought provoking; it provided a great platform to hear such valuable insight from H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani and H.E. Mrs. Angela Merkel. As a home-grown bank that has strong roots and vast expertise in supporting the growth of Qatar over the past four decades, we are proud to be associated with the Forum and will continue to make our contribution to Qatar’s National Vision 2030.”
