Commercial Bank staff gather together for Suhoor
28 June 2015
Doha, Qatar: Staff of Commercial Bank, Qatar’s first private bank, gathered for a Suhoor on 24 June at Katara for a festive evening to celebrate the Holy month of Ramadan. Held under the theme of “Ghabgha”, the Suhoor was attended by all Commercial Bank staff including the Bank’s CEO Abdulla Saleh Al Raisi and the executive team.
Commercial Bank hosts a staff Suhoor each year to encourage the spirit of Ramadan to be embraced by all employees, and this year’s event uniquely emphasised the significance of Qatari heritage and traditional Ramadan celebrations that have been followed by Qataris for generations.
The Suhoor featured a special stage decorated with Fanoos lanterns and constructed in the style of a historic Qatari house, from which an Alrawi (narrator) and Musaher (Ramadan drummer) performed their time-honoured Ramadan roles, and a group of children sang traditional Qatari songs and played traditional Qatari games.
Speaking about the event, Commercial Bank CEO Abdulla Saleh Al Raisi said: “Commercial Bank’s annual staff Suhoor is an opportunity to bring our multinational community together to celebrate the spirit of the month. The month of Ramadan is one of solidarity, philanthropy and reflection, and we are committed to reach out and support various members of our community during this time. Community initiatives form a solid part of our annual corporate social responsibility programme through which we seek to sponsor or spearhead activities that benefit the welfare of our society.”
Al Raisi continued: “As Qatar’s first private bank with a proud history spanning 40 years, we are committed to highlighting and preserving Qatari heritage. The theme of this year’s Suhoor was chosen to familiarise the younger generation of Qatari nationals and also expats with the traditional Qatari Ghabgha and how Suhoors are celebrated in Qatari culture.”
Commercial Bank EGM & Chief Human Capital Officer, Ms Sharoq Al Malki said: “It is a pleasure for us to come together and break bread with our extended family of employees in celebration of the holy month of Ramadan. We hope to foster an overall family atmosphere among our staff in order to establish and maintain a sense of wellbeing and morale that will serve as the basis for each individual staff member’s career with us.”
