Commercial Bank supports World Diabetes Day with Qatar Diabetes Association

​Doha, Qatar: To mark World Diabetes Day, Commercial Bank, in partnership with Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) member of Qatar Foundation, offered one-to-one diabetes assessments to all its employees to help them identify and prevent type two diabetes.
 
During the assessments, employees’ health profile and dietary habits were collected, BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure and blood sugar levels were measured, after which they were given personalized recommendations for how to lead a healthier lifestyle to prevent the onset of the disease.
 
Once the individual assessments were complete, Commercial Bank gave QDA an award in recognition of its efforts to prevent diabetes in Qatar through its important awareness-raising programs.
 
Mr. Hussein Ali Al Abdulla EGM, Chief Marketing Officer at Commercial Bank, said: “Diabetes is one of the most common diseases in Qatar and it is our duty as an employer to support programs that will help to prevent it. Improving the nation’s health is also one of the most important parts of the human development pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which at Commercial Bank we fully support through CSR initiatives like World Diabetes Day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Qatar Diabetes Association for helping us to raise awareness of diabetes among our staff.”
 
Dr. Abdulla Al-Hamaq, Executive Director at QDA, said: “CBQ efforts on improving the health and well-being of their employees are commendable. QDA is happy to participate in this  awareness campaign that joins our ultimate goal to support the nation in living healthily and preventing type 2 diabetes and reduce the burden of chronic diseases”.
 
Diabetes is a common chronic disease all over the world it affects all types of society including children, women, youth and adults. It is one of the world's biggest killers. According to the International Diabetes Federation, there were over 259,200 cases of diabetes in Qatar in 2017.
 
World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign for diabetes and is held on 14 November each year. It was introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to the alarming rise of diabetes around the world. In Qatar, QDA is the leading organization for the education and prevention of diabetes.
