Doha Jazz brings Jazz to Qatar in charity partnership with Commercial Bank
07 March 2013
Doha, Qatar: Doha Jazz, Qatar’s leading music promoters, has launched its new album “Blues On The Corniche” at an unforgettable event recently held at the W Hotel & Residences, where guests enjoyed a thrilling night of live jazz music. Commercialbank, one of the leading full service banks in Qatar, was the main sponsor of this initiative. Commercialbank teamed up with the W Hotel and co-sponsored the charitable event.
"QAR 100,000 for Cancer Research"
The event, which attracted people from all walks of life, raised QAR 100,000 which was donated by Commercialbank and Doha Jazz to the internationally renowned cancer research charity, “Cancer Research UK”. The charity’s research benefits cancer sufferers around the world.
Commenting on the event, Mr. Dean Proctor, EGM, Head of Retail and Consumer Banking of Commercialbank said, “Commercialbank is dedicated to supporting communities in Qatar and around the world. We are passionate about the promotion of health and well being, so we were honored to be asked to take part in this initiative by Doha Jazz to increase awareness of breast cancer and to raise money for research into the disease through an entertaining event. The evening featured music from a diverse cross section of jazz styles in a great ambience, and all in all was a fantastic effort to raise money for this very worthy cause.”
Chris Coull, founder of Doha Jazz and co-producer of the CD “Blues On The Corniche” said: “Commercialbank was pivotal in supporting us with our vision to produce, record and manufacture this music CD. Through the Bank’s generosity, we were able to complete a product of the highest standard that in turn raised a significant sum of money for cancer research and promoted Qatar’s musical and artistic growth.”
The album, which is available on Doha Jazz’s web site and in the Virgin Megastore in Doha, represents a cross section of the diverse and charismatic musicianship that keeps Doha Jazz at the forefront of Qatar’s live music scene. Straight-up jazz classics mixed with Arabesque tracks, Rhythm & Blues grooves and lush orchestral arrangements (courtesy of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra) create a diverse and engaging album that thrills the listener throughout.
Doha Jazz’s founder Chris Coull has been living in Qatar since 2001. When his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, he was determined to create more awareness, encourage more women, both in Qatar and abroad, to be screened for the disease and to raise money to fund more research into the disease.
