Once again, the Education City Golf Club will be on the European Tour Calendar when it hosts the 24th edition of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in 2021 for the second year in a row, from March 11th to March 14th. Designed by two time Major Champion and World Golf Hall of Fame 2009 - José Maria Olazábal, the exciting venue expects to not only challenge the European Tour stars but to entertain local and international spectators with its unique views of the Doha Skyline and the 2022 Education City World Cup Stadium.
The highly-anticipated event is organized by The Qatar Golf Association (QGA), the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), Education City Golf Club and long-term Title Sponsor, Commercial Bank. The tournament is considered Qatar's annual 'must-attend' sporting and social event, first held in 1998 and widely known for bringing together the world's best golf talent; the likes of Sergio Garcia, Rory Mcllroy, Adam Scott, Justin Rose, Ernie Els and Henrik Stenson have all competed in past years.
Hassan Nasser Al Naimi, President of Qatar Golf Association, commented: “There is no hiding from the fact that most of 2020 has been packed with challenges for everyone. Once again, on behalf of the Qatar Golf Association, we are truly grateful for the continued commitment and support of the Qatar Olympic Committee and our long-term Title Sponsor, Commercial Bank which has helped us position the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters as a significant world-class golf event. We are also very excited about working alongside Education City Golf Club for the 24th Edition and aim to continue its longtime success."
Commercial Bank's GCEO, Joseph Abraham stated: “We are honored to sponsor the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters tournament for sixteen consecutive years. This is a testament to our commitment to supporting Qatar's vision to be a sporting hub. Not only does such an event increase community participation in sports activities but it also attracts international fans and members of the Qatari society, and promotes a healthy lifestyle in the country."
Commercial Bank EGM, Chief Marketing Officer, Hussain Al Abdulla said: “Qatar is now considered a world-class sporting destination where international tournaments are and will be held. Our fruitful cooperation with Qatar Golf Association, the Olympic Committee, and Education City comes to add another international tournament to the agenda of Qatar as we look forward to widening the platform of this cooperation through supporting more sports activities in the future."
The 2021 event will see Education City support and emphasize community and family activities as it aims to encourage young Qataris to take up the sport and to grow the game of golf in Qatar.
Speaking on behalf of Education City Golf Club, the General Manager Michael Braidwood stated: “Education City Golf Club is excited to be hosting the 2021 Qatar Masters for the second time. The players enjoyed the challenge and condition of our course in the 2020 edition of the event. We are looking forward to seeing how they will tackle the course on their second visit. The event is an ideal opportunity for us to further our goal in growing the game of golf here in Qatar and we aim to use it as a platform to get as many new people engaged in the sport."
The Commercial Bank Qatar Masters was attended by thousands of spectators in 2020 and broadcast to a global TV audience of over 500 million viewers. For the 24th Edition of the event, all eyes will be on Doha as the biggest names in the sport vie for the Mother of Pearl Trophy on one of the newest golf courses on the Tour.
The 2021 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters will take place from March 11th to March 14th.
The European Tour announces its 2021 schedule which will feature a minimum of 42 tournaments in 24 countries, as golf's global Tour resumes a full international programme.
Keith Pelley, Chief Executive of the European Tour, said: “I am incredibly proud to announce our 2021 global schedule today, one that once again sees us journey through continents and across the world. There is no question that the challenge of reshaping our 2020 season in many ways informed our approach to 2021. One of the key learnings was to group events together in terms of their geographical location to create a more travel friendly season for our members. That is reflected in numerous concentrations of event locations. Also, our events in the initial part of the 2021 season will continue to operate under the guidelines of our world-class Health Strategy, which will evolve aligned to the latest medical advice."
